The beloved ‘Amma’, J Jayalalithaa who led a life revered by her loyal followers, and full of controversies, will be laid to rest at 4:30 pm today on Marina beach near the memorial of her mentor M.G. Ramachandran.
Her mortal remains have been kept at Rajaji Hall and the PM Narendra Modi will pay his last respects.
The departed Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu will be accorded a state funeral and the flags will be flown at half mast.
The Center has declared a day’s mourning and no ceremonial functions will be organized on Tuesday.
J Jayalalithaa, the chief of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) passed away on Monday at 11:30 pm. She had been admitted to Apollo Hospital following a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.
The casket carrying Jayalaithaa’s body draped in the national flag is kept at at Rajaji Hall, where bodies of former chief ministers—K. Kamaraj and M.G.Ramachandran—were kept before their funerals.
The state will observe a seven-day mourning beginning Tuesday.
