In a shocking development, Ambassador Andrei Karlov, a Russian Ambassador to Turkey was shot dead yesterday by a gun man in front of terrified witnesses at a photography exhibition in Ankara, Turkey.
As per reports, the motive behind the assassination attempt was the ongoing crisis in Aleppo.
The gunman was reportedly heard shouting in Turkish, “We die in Aleppo, you die here” in a video footage published online by Turkish media.
According to state TV, the attacker was fatally shot by the police after shooting Mr Karlov and wounding at least three others.
As per reports in Hurriyet newspaper, the assassin shot into the air before shooting Mr Karlov when he was delivering a speech at an art gallery, in what appeared to be a suspected radical Islamic attack.
The attacker, wearing a black suit, allegedly entered the art exhibition with police identification and Mr Karlov reportedly didn’t have a security detail with him.
The photos show the attacker standing with his hands clasped near Mr Karlov before pulling out a handgun in his right hand and shooting the ambassador.
Mr Karlov was attending the opening of an exhibition at Ankara’s Centre for Contemporary Arts when the gun attack occurred.
