That’s an incredible answer. Such is the hubris and the smugness.
NDTV Prime Time news anchor Nidhi Razdan asked Sambit Patra to apologize or leave the debate when the BJP spokesperson, trying to dodge an uncomfortable question, deliberately accused NDTV of driving its agenda.
This occurred during a prime time news debate where a panelist were discussing the central government’s “ban on sale of cow for slaughter” and how it is gradually causing dissent among the citizens including its own BJP leaders. The topic of the prime time debate was “Meghalaya BJP Leader Quits: Will Beef Politics Hurt Party Politically?” and Nidhi put the question to Sambit Patra who started a salvo of accusation saying the NDTV is spreading misinformation.
When the NDTV anchor who is known for her brave stance on political debates on Twitter, asked Sambit Patra to answer why the Meghalaya BJP leader quit over beef politics, the flippant BJP spokesperson told her not to worry about it in an attempt to avoid answering the question, and play to the gallery.
Nidhi’s responded saying “That’s an incredible answer. Such is the hubris and the smugness!” before moving on to the panelist, Sadanand Dhume.
A few moments later, while Sanjoy Hazarika was responding to Nidhi’s question on the debate, Sambit Patra interrupted him, asking for a chance to speak.
When Sanjoy asked why he interrupted, Sambit Patra responded saying, “I interrupt other people in NDTV only and I do that because the TV has an agenda…”.
Nidhi immediately intervened asking Sambit Patra to apologize or leave the program, saying the accusation was not acceptable.

Late on, an embarrassed Sambit Patra responded to a tweet by Minhaz Merchant defending his rude behavior on the NDTV debate.
And when You call this an "Agenda" …then they pull out the camera from you … https://t.co/7eRbzjGDFp

The incident sparked another debate on Twitter when people asked why the BJP spokesperson accepts NDTV’s invitation to join debates.

This included a tweet from Sandip Ghose which reeked of cheap joke and sexism.
In these turbulent times when the government should be worried over plummeting GDP rate and rise in unemployment in the country, cheap shots from the party’s spokesperson only prove how the party is more focused on its own good rather than the citizen’s welfare of the country.
